Artist Statement and CV
I produce work that has been based around the theme of both interiors and architecture. The main inspiration for the ways in which I develop my techniques, processes and use of colour come from the 1950’s, with a focus on the work of both Lucienne and Robin Day and the 1950’s home and interior.

In reference to my architectural pieces these are based around many European cities such as Barcelona and Amsterdam, the 1950’s aspect is used through my use of colour, line and fabrics. However, when focusing on my interior pieces I draw inspiration from both the modern and 1950’s interior, therefore the objects as well as my use of style and technique reflect this particular time.

My current work is produced onto canvas but I plan to gradually develop my work onto paper and work within a frame. I begin my work on canvas through producing line drawings from photographs and then I adapt these through my use of colour and fabrics. I mask out areas on the canvas and add my chosen colour palette. I am very selective where I choose to paint and like to capture the textiles aspect. The fabric is then stitched onto the canvas adding another texture and depth to the overall piece. Finally a fine black continuous line is added to off set from the blocks of colour, capturing the 1950’s printed textiles.

Commissioned to produce eight 6ft8 by 1ft10 boxed canvases based on local architecture. These are to be displayed within the main lobby of the hotel and framed prints will furnish all the hotel rooms.
